At this strange moment in history gripped in a state of climate grief while ecological disasters alter the course of the future in real time, I find myself running back into the arms of Mother Nature- our first, last and only home. We are the most disconnected from ourselves as part of nature than ever before, yet Nature is the center of what grounds us and keeps us alive; the only real thing we can believe in.
In this work I bring together my original photography with layers of collected ephemera into photomontage diptychs as unfixed collages, then rephotographing the resulting assemblage. This layering and piecing of disparate elements, reflects the disjointed reality of the present moment when so much of the "real world" is artificial "intelligence," and dark hidden layers of the past are surfacing from the depths to be revealed in the light.
The use of vintage papers in these collages reflects the fragility of our lives where past and future can exist in the layers of now, but can also be swept away in a moment.
