One True Thing

Creation is a powerful antidote to fear. So I have concluded that the only way I am going to get through this next phase of living in a post-truth world is to focus on one true thing at a time. And the ultimate one true thing is Mother Nature.
At the end of the day, whether you are a billionaire oligarch holed up in your golden tower or living close to the earth on an undiscovered island, you are at the mercy of Nature. You need her to sustain your life. She does not need you, in fact, at all. She will offer herself abundantly to those who honor her and destroy those who exploit her. Nature also teaches the ultimate lesson we need to hear right now- Life. Goes. On. Sunrise after sunrise. Year after year. Epoch after epoch. Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall, but life goes on. And on.
Years ago, when I was pregnant with my first child, I had the ultimate privilege to visit South Africa and Botswana when I had family living there. Never have I felt more in tune with Nature- the beauty, grandeur and sheer wonder of it all. The truest true thing I have ever experienced with all of my five, no- SIX senses.
In this new work, I revisit my long ago film archive layering old photographs with collage, found photos and collected ephemera to create a place for us to rest - in the cradle of humanity- the arms of Mother Nature-
